Matsuda
About
Where Heritage Meets Modern Mastery
For over 45 years, Matsuda has fused meticulous craftsmanship with contemporary design. Each frame is more than eyewear—it’s a sculpted work of art, shaped to please both the eye and the hand. Inspired by history yet reimagined through a distinctive modern lens, Matsuda’s creations carry a timeless elegance rooted in heritage and place.
Patience in Every Detail
While the world chases speed, Matsuda embraces the art of taking time. In Japan’s renowned eyewear workshops, master artisans shape each piece entirely by hand. Working with celluloid acetate, titanium, sterling silver, and gold in 18K solid or 22.5K plated form, they blend generations-old techniques with modern precision. The result: frames built to be cherished for a lifetime.
A Legacy of Vision
In 1967, Mitsuhiro Matsuda founded his namesake brand in Tokyo, earning acclaim as one of Japan’s most celebrated fashion houses. Trained at Bunka, the country’s premier design school, Matsuda was the first to fuse architecture with fashion and helped launch Tokyo Fashion Week. In 1989, he introduced a groundbreaking eyewear collection—pieces so distinct that early models are now prized by collectors.
Today, Matsuda Eyewear is experiencing a quiet revival. The collection pairs modern interpretations of its iconic styles with entirely new designs, each carrying the intricate detail and refined artistry that defined the originals. Evoking history while shaped by a singular modern vision, every frame is a study in timeless style.
